Piano/Keyboard Grade 2

Piano

6-8 months

Goals

  • Certification : Finish a certificate course, and take an exam with Trinity College London.
    For more details on the exam, visit Trinity College London's Piano Page.

  • Performance : Prepare for competitions/stage performances/events based on your level of skill. When you're ready, record at the studio.

  • Social Playing : Learn techniques that you can use, on popular pieces/songs at this level, to play along with friends, etc., at social events and gatherings.

Concepts Covered

Knowledge, technique from Piano Grade One is required. 

Finger Technique ONE (13 exercises covering the following): ​

  • Accents.

  • Accent shifts.

  • Trills.

  • 1-5 exercise (all keys).

  • Finger independence.

  • Arpeggios.

  • Whole tones.

  • Mirrored exercises.

  • Odd meters

Finger Technique TWO (60 exercises) :

  • 16th notes

  • Introduction to trills

  • Scales across multiple octaves

  • Finger Independence

  • Staccato chords

  • 6-8 Time-Signature

  • Interchanging clefs in both staves.

  • Three-note chords in both hands

  • Syncopated 8th note rhythms

  • Octave jumps

  • Triplets, Quadruplets and Quintolets

  • Arpeggios with both hands

  • Trills

  • Fingering repeated notes

  • Grace-note (triplets)

  • Chromatic scale in contrary motion

  • Introduction to 32nd-notes

  • Thirds jumps

  • Glissandi

Sight Reading (78 exercises) : 

  • Natural keys for Left and Right hand.

Rhythm Reading (26 exercises) :​

  • Common-Time

  • Cut-Time

  • Ties

  • Dotted notes and rests

  • Imaginary barline

  • Eighth-Quarter-Eighths (notes and rests) Rhythm Study

Improvisation Technique :

  • C minor blues lead
