๐Ÿš€ Getting started

How do I sign in?

Sign in uses your Google account. Tap "Continue with Google" and choose the Google account linked to your enrolment. There is no password to remember.

On iPhone or iPad, use the web version at student.fingersmith.in and tap the Google button there.

I signed in but can't see any classes โ€” what do I do?

You may have signed in with a different Google account to the one on your enrolment, or your profile is still being set up (this takes up to a minute).

Close and reopen the app. If it still shows nothing, message us on WhatsApp.

I'm a new student โ€” what happens after I sign up?

After you complete the sign-up steps โ€” subject, name, WhatsApp number, and the final confirmation โ€” the app shows a "Setting up your accountโ€ฆ" screen and runs four steps automatically:

  1. Profile created
  2. Subject memberships assigned
  3. Payment plan set up
  4. Payment link being sent to WhatsApp

When your payment link is ready it appears on the app and is also sent to your WhatsApp. If this takes longer than 3 minutes, tap "Check again" or "Go to the app".

What are the three tabs on the home screen?
  • Schedule โ€” your classes for the selected day, with buttons to book and cancel
  • Courses โ€” your enrolled subjects, topics, and lesson material
  • Tools โ€” practice tools (Metronome and Tuner)
What's in the drawer menu?

Tap the menu icon at the top left, or swipe from the left edge, to open the drawer. It contains:

  • Profile โ€” edit your name, phone numbers, address, date of birth, gender, and photo
  • Grade Exams โ€” exam applications filed by your teacher
  • Allocations โ€” your regular weekly class slots
  • Cancelled Classes โ€” history of classes you've cancelled
  • Payment History โ€” all your past payments
  • Notification Settings โ€” choose what you get notified about
What does the bell icon at the top do?

Tapping the bell opens your Notifications page, showing recent alerts โ€” class reminders, payment updates, and cancellation confirmations. A red badge on the icon shows how many you haven't read yet.

๐Ÿ“… Viewing your schedule

How do I see my classes?

Open the Schedule tab (the first tab on the home screen). It shows your classes for the selected date. Use the "Previous Day", "Today", and "Next Day" buttons at the bottom to move between dates. Tap and hold "Today" to jump to any specific date.

What do the colours on the class cards mean?
  • Blue โ€” Present (you attended)
  • Grey โ€” Absent
  • Orange โ€” Cancellation pending
  • Default tint โ€” Upcoming or confirmed
How do I see details of a class?

Tap the class card. A panel slides up showing the date, time, teacher, room, duration, points, and status. If the class can still be cancelled, you'll also see a "Cancel Class" button at the bottom of the panel.

๐Ÿ“ Booking a class

How do I book an extra class?

On the Schedule tab, tap "Book a Class". Booking is open for today and the next 4 days only.

  1. Choose a date
  2. Choose a subject (from the ones you're enrolled in)
  3. Choose an available slot โ€” it shows the time, teacher, and room
  4. Review the summary and tap "Confirm Booking"

After confirming, you'll see: "Booking request placed! You'll be notified on WhatsApp once confirmed." The school confirms your booking and notifies you on WhatsApp.

Can I book more than 5 days in advance?

No. Booking is only available for today and the next 4 days. The "Book a Class" button shows a message if you're viewing a date outside that window.

Can I set a backup slot?

Yes. On the booking summary step, turn on "Add a backup slot" to add a second preference โ€” if your first choice is taken, the school will try the backup instead.

You can also tick "Reserve when available" to hold a slot for you if one opens up when another student cancels (at least 7 hours before the class starts). You'll get a WhatsApp notification when a slot is booked for you.

My booking didn't go through โ€” what happened?

If you see a dialog titled "Could Not Place Request" โ€” "Unable to place your booking request. Please check your connection and try again." โ€” your internet connection most likely dropped. Check your connection and try again. If the problem continues, message us on WhatsApp.

โŒ Cancelling a class

How do I cancel a class?

Tap the class card on your Schedule. In the panel that opens, tap "Cancel Class". You'll be asked to enter a reason โ€” it must be at least 10 characters long. Once submitted, the card turns orange to show the cancellation is pending. You'll be notified on WhatsApp when your teacher confirms.

Can I cancel a class that's already happened?

No. The "Cancel Class" button is hidden for past classes, and for any class already marked as Present, Absent, or Cancellation Requested.

Where can I see classes I've cancelled?

Open the drawer and tap "Cancelled Classes". You'll see your last 20 cancellations, most recent first. Tap any record for full details โ€” subject, date, time, teacher, and room. Older records are in your WhatsApp chat with us.

๐Ÿ“š Your courses, lessons, and topics

How do I find my course materials?

Open the Courses tab (the second tab on the home screen). You'll see every subject you're enrolled in. Tap a subject to see its topics, then tap a topic to see its lessons. Tap a lesson to open its attached material โ€” PDF, video, or link โ€” in your browser.

A lesson says "No attachment available" โ€” what does that mean?

That lesson doesn't have a file attached yet. Your teacher may add one later. If you need the material now, message us on WhatsApp.

๐ŸŽธ Tools โ€” Metronome and Tuner

What's the Metronome for?

A practice metronome to help you keep time while playing. You can set the tempo from 20 to 240 BPM, choose 1 to 8 beats per bar, and use tap tempo to match a song you're listening to.

Android app only. The metronome is not available on the web version. If you're on iPhone, iPad, or a desktop browser, download the Android app to use it.

What's the Tuner for?

A chromatic pitch tuner for string and other instruments. How to use it:

  1. Open the Tools tab and tap Tuner
  2. Tap "Pick Instrument" to choose yours (Violin is the default; Guitar, Bass, and others are available)
  3. Tap the microphone icon to start listening
  4. Play a note โ€” the tuner shows:
  • "Tap the mic to start" โ€” before you begin
  • "Listening โ€” play louder" โ€” signal too weak
  • "โœ“ In tune" โ€” the note is centred
  • "Tune up โ–ฒ (flat)" โ€” the note is flat, tune up
  • "Tune down โ–ผ (sharp)" โ€” the note is sharp, tune down

If the tuner doesn't respond, check that you've allowed microphone access for the app in your phone's settings.

โญ Points and your plan

What are points?

Each class you book costs a certain number of points. Your points balance is set by your payment plan โ€” when you pay for a new cycle, your balance is topped up.

Where do I see my points balance?

Open your Profile page โ€” tap your avatar at the top right of the home screen. Your current points balance is shown there.

What happens when my points run low?

When your balance is running low, we'll send you a payment link on WhatsApp for your next cycle. Just tap the link on WhatsApp to pay โ€” you don't need to do anything in the app itself.

๐Ÿ’ณ Payments

How do I pay for my classes?

We send you a payment link on WhatsApp before your current cycle ends. Tap the link to pay via Razorpay. The link can be forwarded โ€” so if a parent is handling payments, you can pass the link on to them.

I need a payment link now โ€” can I get one from the app?

Yes. Open the drawer and tap "Payment History", then tap "Get a Payment Link" at the bottom. If an active link already exists, the app shows it immediately. If not, a new one is generated within a few seconds.

Where can I see past payments?

Open the drawer and tap "Payment History". You'll see your last 20 payments, most recent first. Tap any record for full details. Older records are in your WhatsApp chat with us.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Allocations

What are my allocations?

Your allocations are your regular recurring class slots โ€” the weekly day and time you normally attend. Open the drawer and tap "Allocations" to see them. Active slots are shown first, sorted by day and time.

๐Ÿ† Grade exams

Where do I apply for a grade exam?

You don't apply directly from the app โ€” your teacher files the application on your behalf. Once it's been filed, open the drawer and tap "Grade Exams" to see the status of your application.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Leave

Can I record leave in the app?

The Leave Tracker feature is not available in the current version of the app. Please message us on WhatsApp if you need to record a leave period.

๐Ÿ”” Notifications

How do I control which notifications I get?

Open the drawer and tap "Notification Settings".

I'm not getting notifications โ€” what should I check?

First, open your phone's settings and make sure notifications are allowed for the Fingersmith's Garage app. Then open the app's own Notification Settings from the drawer and check your preferences there.

Where are older notifications?

The in-app Notifications screen shows recent alerts only. Older notifications are in your WhatsApp chat with us.

๐Ÿ‘ค Your profile

How do I update my details?

Tap your avatar at the top right of the home screen, or open the drawer and tap "Profile". You can edit: full name, primary phone, alternate phone, residential address, about, date of birth, gender, and profile photo. Your email address is linked to your Google account and cannot be changed from the app.

Where do I log out?

Open your Profile page and tap the sign-out icon at the top right of the screen.
