Rhythm, coordination and groove — for kids, teens and working adults. Drumkit provided at class. Just bring your sticks. From age 5, all levels welcome.
Drumkit at Fingersmith's Garage is taught properly — not just bashing patterns. Classes cover stick technique, independence between limbs, rudiments, reading drum notation, and working with a metronome from the start. Fun, structured and genuinely musical.
Grip, stroke types, rebound control and the standard rudiments — these are the foundation of everything else. Students who learn these early develop speed and control naturally without forcing it.
Playing hi-hat, bass drum and snare simultaneously while maintaining consistent time is the core challenge of drums. We build this step by step, making it achievable and satisfying.
Drum notation is its own language. We teach students to read it from early on — it opens up a world of repertoire and makes learning new material much faster.
Playing in time with a metronome, locking in with other instruments, and developing personal groove are emphasised throughout — because these are what make you actually useful in a band.
Drums is one of the most popular instruments for adults picking up music for the first time. Most professional musicians also hold day jobs. If you want to learn, you can — provided you put in the effort.
Drumkits and practice pads are provided at class. You only need to bring your own drumsticks. We can recommend what to get if you don't have a pair yet.
Drumkit students can progress through Trinity grade exams. Trinity grade exam pathway available. Students record exam performances at FSG for digital submission.
